THE MAESTRO RETURNS!

Wonderful news... a brand new Miyazaki film!  I claim no exclusive here. You can read all about it on the Yahoo News site...

I'm particularly delighted by his one key quote...

"I believe that making animation with pencils is the only way for us to survive. Everybody is discarding pencils. Because of that, at least we should not lose track of ourselves. I want to continue to work in such circumstances."

Yee-hah! Today is a GOOD day!!!

This is wonderful news! I love his work. Didn't even know he had a new film in the works. He raises the bar on hand-drawn animation everytime he releases a new film.

Yes Brett.  I'm a huge fan too... especially of 'Spirited Away', which remains his great masterwork. (IMHO) I think 'Princess Mononoke' would have been too but the animation lets it down somewhat.  But he learned that and really raised the bar on traditional animation, as you say... not just in his native country, but worldwide.  Can't wait to see this one!

By the way, sorry its been a little quiet on the blog front lately but I have huge work pressures right now. I'm prepping the advanced animation lessons for professionals that I'm putting on at DigiPen, and getting everything wrapped-up on my new book for delivery to the publisher.  I should be much freer and more active by September though!  (Phew!)

    Hey Tony,

I stumbled onto your blog a while ago and I thought you might be interested in this recent news story regarding Studio Ghibli.

It appears they will be doing the animation for an upcoming Nintendo DS game from Japanese game studio Level-5. It doesn't mention any sort of Miyazaki involvement but apparently he is not a fan of the game medium. Level-5 also worked on the Professor Layton and the Curious Village game which features an interesting hand-drawn animation style that you might want to check out.
