UNCLE LUBIN:

OK, a number of you have asked to see the original "The Adventures of Uncle Lubin" pilot film I made with producer Simon Channing-Williams.  So, for your delectation and delight, I have added it below.

However, please view it with a few provisos in mind...

For some reason all the background sound effects are missing, so all you can hear is the introductory voice of William Heath Robinson (played by David Thewlis) and the charming piano composition by Howard Blake.  Remember too that this was created using old-fashioned 'film' compositing techniques... we did not have access to 'digital' facilities at the time!

That said, I think some of the animation remains pretty cool looking and I am still sad that no-one funded us to bring these unique and amusing 'adventures' to the big screen!

I hope you enjoy it, nevertheless?

Fantastic ! Thank you for sharing . I think it would have been a wonderful film ... great subject and perfect for blending animation with live action.

Thanks for the kind comment David.  I spent many years trying to get that one off the ground... I paid for the film rights to the book and all WHR's other work/biography for all that time.  I even had a meeting with some Disney execs who loved the idea but wanted to take the 'Englishness' out of it by considering a (young at the time) 'Tom Hanks' to play the lead and substitute the 'leprechaun character' with you young 'puppy dog'! (Because they said young American kids could relate to a puppy but not a leprechaun!)  I ended the discussion there and then! Ho-hum.  Didn't they ever see 'Wallace & Grommit'... that was the kind of English eccentricity I was going for with the piece, with Heath Robinson's original drawing style.  'Hugh Grant' as my pick for the lead. (It was long ago remember, at the beginning of his "Four Wedding and a Funeral" fame!

Oh well, maybe I'll still show them all one day!!!
